Cotton prices in northern India fell on Thursday. Due to weak demand, cotton prices fell by 25-50 rupees per Mohnd (37.2 kg). According to local traders, the arrival of cotton in northern India increased to 12000 bales (170 kg each). The trading price of cotton in Punjab is 6150-6275 rupees per Moende, that in Haryana is 6150-6300 rupees per Moende, that in Upper Rajasthan is 6350-6425 rupees per Moende, and that in Lower Rajasthan is 60500-62500 rupees per kandi (356kg).
Cotton yarn in northern India
With the continuous influx of new export orders, cotton yarn trading activities in northern India improved. However, due to the price parity, the price of cotton yarn in Ludiana fell by 3 rupees per kilogram. Traders said that after the cotton price fell, cotton mills tried to attract buyers by reducing the price. Cotton yarn export demand increased.
The price of cotton yarn in Ludiana fell, and textile mills offered better quotations to potential buyers. Due to the receipt of new export orders from China, Bangladesh and other countries, the demand is high. As cotton prices fell, textile mills also lowered cotton yarn prices. Gulshan Jain, a Ludiana trader, said, “The demand is normal, but it has improved compared with the previous weeks.”
In Ludiana, 30 counts of combed cotton yarn are sold at the price of 275-285 rupees per kilogram (including consumption tax). 20 and 25 combed cotton yarns at 265-275 and 270-280 rupees per kilogram. According to the market insight tool TexPro of Fibre2Fashion, the price of 30 pieces of combed cotton yarn is stable at Rs. 250-260 per kg.
The price of cotton yarn in Delhi was stable, and the demand for cotton yarn was normal. Due to weak demand in downstream industries, trading activities were limited. A trader in Delhi said that the new export orders of cotton yarn improved market sentiment, but the clothing industry did not improve. Global and local demand remains weak. Therefore, the demand of downstream industries has not rebounded.
In Delhi, the price of 30 combed cotton yarns is 280-285 rupees per kilogram (excluding consumption tax), 40 combed cotton yarns are 305-310 rupees per kilogram, 30 combed cotton yarns are 255-260 rupees per kilogram, and 40 combed cotton yarns are 280-285 rupees per kilogram.
The demand for Panipat recycled yarn remained low, but the price remained stable. Traders expect that the supply of combed cotton will increase as the spinning mills are expected to increase their output after receiving new export orders. Even in the arrival season, the price of combed cotton did not fall, which is a major problem in Panipat’s home furnishing industry.
