Germany Imported 27.8 Billion Euros Of Clothing From January To September, And China Remains The Main Source Country

The total amount of imported clothing from Germany from January to September 2023 was 27.8 billion euros, a decrease of 14.1% compared to the same period last year.

Among them, over half (53.3%) of Germany’s clothing imports from January to September came from three countries: China was the main source country, with an import value of 5.9 billion euros, accounting for 21.2% of Germany’s total imports; Next is Bangladesh, with an import value of 5.6 billion euros, accounting for 20.3%; The third is Türkiye, with an import volume of 3.3 billion euros, accounting for 11.8%.

Data shows that compared with the same period last year, Germany’s clothing imports from China fell by 20.7%, Bangladesh by 16.9%, and Türkiye by 10.6%.

The Federal Bureau of Statistics pointed out that 10 years ago, in 2013, China, Bangladesh and Türkiye were the top three countries of origin of German clothing imports, accounting for 53.2%. At that time, the proportion of clothing imports from China to the total amount of clothing imports from Germany was 29.4%, and the proportion of clothing imports from Bangladesh was 12.1%.

Data shows that Germany exported 18.6 billion euros in clothing from January to September. Compared to the same period last year, it has increased by 0.3%. However, over two-thirds of the exported clothing (67.5%) is not produced in Germany, but rather is referred to as re export, which means that these clothing are produced in other countries and are not further processed or processed before being exported from Germany. Germany exports clothing mainly to its neighboring countries Poland, Switzerland, and Austria.
