Indian Polyester Yarn Prices Rise Due To Rising Raw Material Costs

In the past two weeks, due to the increase in raw material costs and the implementation of quality control orders (QCO) for polyester fibers and other products, the price of polyester yarn in India has increased by 2-3 rupees per kilogram.

Trade sources have stated that import supply may be affected this month as many suppliers have not yet obtained BIS certification. The price of polyester cotton yarn remains stable.

In the Surat market in Gujarat state, the price of polyester yarn has increased, with the price of 30 polyester yarns increasing by 2-3 rupees to 142-143 rupees per kilogram (excluding consumption tax), and the price of 40 polyester yarns reaching 157-158 rupees per kilogram.

A trader in Surat market said: “Due to the implementation of the quality control order (QCO), the imported goods were not delivered last month. This month there may be supply disruption, supporting market sentiment.”

Ashok Singhal, a market trader in Ludhiana, said: “The price of polyester yarn in Ludhiana also rose by 2-3 rupees/kg. Although the demand was weak, the market sentiment was supported by supply concerns. The price of polyester yarn rose due to the rising trend of raw material prices. After Ramadan, the consumption of downstream industries will rise. The implementation of QCO also led to the rise of polyester yarn prices.”

In Ludiana, the price of 30 polyester yarns is 153-162 rupees per kilogram (including consumption tax), 30 PC combed yarns (48/52) are 217-230 rupees per kilogram (including consumption tax), 30 PC combed yarns (65/35) are 202-212 rupees per kilogram, and recycled polyester fibers are 75-78 rupees per kilogram.

Due to the downward trend of ICE cotton, cotton prices in northern India have declined. Cotton prices fell by 40-50 rupees per month (37.2 kilograms) on Wednesday. Trade sources pointed out that the market is affected by global cotton trends. The demand for cotton in spinning mills remains unchanged as they do not have a large inventory and have to constantly purchase cotton. The arrival volume of cotton in northern India has reached 8000 bales (170 kilograms per bag).

In Punjab, the cotton trading price is 6125-6250 rupees per Mond, 6125-6230 rupees per Mond in Haryana, 6370-6470 rupees per Mond in upper Rajasthan, and 59000-61000 rupees per 356kg in lower Rajasthan.
