The Decrease In US Clothing Imports In October Has Led To A 10.6% Increase In Imports To China

In October, the decline in US clothing imports decreased. In terms of quantity, the year-on-year decline in imports for the month narrowed to single digits, a year-on-year decrease of 8.3%, less than the 11.4% in September.

Calculated by amount, the year-on-year decrease in US clothing imports in October was still 21.9%, slightly lower than the 23% in September. In October, the average unit price of clothing imports in the United States decreased by 14.8% year-on-year, slightly higher than the 13% in September.

The reason for the decrease in clothing imports in the United States is due to lower values in the same period last year. Compared to the same period before the pandemic (2019), the import volume of clothing in the United States decreased by 15% and the import amount decreased by 13% in October.

Similarly, in October, the import volume of clothing from the United States to China increased by 10.6% year-on-year, while it decreased by 40% in the same period last year. However, compared to the same period in 2019, the import volume of clothing from the United States to China still decreased by 16%, and the import value decreased by 30%.

From the performance of the past 12 months, the United States has seen a 25% decrease in clothing imports to China and a 24% decrease in imports to other regions. It is worth noting that the import amount to China decreased by 27.7%, compared to a 19.4% decrease in the same period last year, due to a significant drop in unit price.
