The Indian technology textile industry is expected to show an upward growth trajectory and achieve expansion in the short term. Serving multiple large industries such as automobiles, construction, healthcare, agriculture, home textiles, and sports, it has driven India’s demand for technical textiles, which are highly dependent on the functionality, performance, quality, durability, and lifespan of professional textiles. India has a unique textile industry tradition that continues to grow, but there is still a huge untapped market.
Nowadays, the Indian textile industry is in a state of interaction with advanced technology, digital advantages, textile manufacturing, processing and sorting automation, infrastructure enhancement, and Indian government support. At the recent industry conference, the 6th National Workshop on Industrial Textile Standards and Regulations, organized by the Indian Federation of Industry and Commerce, the British Industrial Standards Office, and the Ministry of Textiles (MoT), the Secretary of the Indian Federation of Industry and Commerce, Rachana Shah, predicted the growth of the industrial textile industry in India and globally. She introduced that the current output value of India’s industrial textile industry is 22 billion US dollars, and it is expected to grow to 40 billion to 50 billion US dollars in the next five years.
As one of the most powerful sub industries in the Indian textile industry, there are a wide range of applications for technical textiles, which can be roughly divided into 12 categories based on their uses. These categories include Agrotex, Buildtex, Clottex, Geotex, Hometex, Index, Medtex, Mobiltex, Oekotex (Ecotex), Packtex, Protex, and Sportex. In recent years, India has made significant progress in the relevant fields of the aforementioned categories. The demand for technical textiles stems from India’s development and industrialization. Technical textiles are designed specifically for special purposes and are increasingly favored in various fields. These specialized textiles are used for various infrastructure construction activities, such as highways, railway bridges, etc.
In agricultural activities, such as shading nets, insect prevention nets, soil erosion control, etc. The demand for healthcare includes products such as gauze, surgical gowns, and personal protective equipment bags. Cars require airbags, seat belts, car interiors, soundproofing materials, etc. In the fields of national defense and industrial security, its applications include fire protection, flame retardant clothing, chemical protective clothing, and other protective products. In the field of sports, these textiles can be used for moisture absorption, sweat wicking, thermal regulation, etc. These products cover fields such as automobiles, civil engineering, construction, agriculture, construction, healthcare, industrial safety, and personal protection. This is a highly R&D driven and innovative industry.
As a global healthcare destination, India has established itself globally and gained widespread attention and trust from the global healthcare service industry. This is due to India’s cost efficiency, highly skilled medical groups, state-of-the-art facilities, high-tech medical machinery, and minimal language barriers compared to other countries. In the past decade, India has gained a reputation for providing low-cost and high-quality medical services to medical tourists from around the world. This highlights the potential demand for advanced solutions with global standards to provide first-class treatment and facilities for patients.
In the past few years, the growth momentum of industrial textiles in India has been strong. At the same meeting, the Minister further shared that the current global market size for technological textiles is 260 billion US dollars, and it is expected to reach 325 billion US dollars by 2025-262. This indicates an increase in demand in various industries, promoting production, manufacturing, product innovation, and exports. India is a lucrative market, especially now that the government has taken a series of measures and initiatives to drive industry growth and provide production quality and cost-effective manufacturing for global companies.
Technological progress, the increase in terminal applications, durability, user friendliness, and sustainable solutions have increased the demand for global markets. Disposable products such as wipes, disposable household textiles, travel bags, airbags, high-end sports textiles, and medical textiles will soon become daily consumer products. India’s strength is further driven by various textile technology associations, centers of excellence, and others.
